January 19, 2023

With so many treatment options available to straighten teeth it is hard to know which one is right for you and your lifestyle! There are both advantages and disadvantages of both aligners and braces. It is important that before you begin orthodontic treatment that you know the facts and make an informed decision, this blog will outline both pros and cons of aligners and fixed braces and hopefully help you determine which treatment is right for you.

Aligners

Pros;

o  Less noticeable than braces and look nicer

o  Don’t require you to change your diet to much

o  Easier to keep on top of oral hygiene as they are removable

o  Less frequent and quicker appointments

o  A lot more comfortable

Cons:

o  More compliance required; aligners need to be worn 22hours a day

o  Need to be removed for eating and cleaning

o  Sometimes in complex situations aligners may not be an option

Braces

Pros;

o  Anyone is eligible for braces

o  Variety of styles and colours

o  Less compliance required in terms of remembering to wear them as they’re attached

Cons;

o  More difficult to keep on top of oral hygiene

o  Diet requires more change and mindfulness

o  Can be quite uncomfortable

o  More noticeable in appearance

o  More frequent and longer visits required
